Please excuse the pun…any egg-cuse!

DaffodilsThe time for restriction and frugal food is almost over! What have you given up for lent? Here at Little Pickle Towers one of us has given up sugar (mouth watering at the thought of chocolate right now…) and another has given up alcohol. Two of the trickier vices to kick to the curb, trust us. As the days have been ticking along we have both found it a little easier not to reach for the biscuit tin or the glass of wine after a long day of cooking but don’t get us wrong we are most certainly looking forward to a celebratory Easter egg alongside a gin and tonic!

This is such a wonderful time of year; spring has indeed sprung! Everyone seems to have a little leap in their step around March and April, a lightness that comes with seeing sunshine yellow daffodils along every Cotswolds street and perhaps that nice extra long weekend…

We are fully booked up for Easter celebrations with dinner parties this weekend with groups of friends and family spending the long weekend eating delicious food (even if we do say so ourselves!) and going on a convivial country walk, to work off the previous nights dessert.

Lamb, shepherds pie, kale and lamb consomme.There is something wonderful about all the seasons (especially food related seasonal favourites) but there is something really special about new season lamb, jersey royal potatoes, purple sprouting broccoli and of course, asparagus. Spring food is so colourful, light and healthy. Slow cooked lamb shoulder with spring greens enabling you to have a slower pace of eating and enjoying with friends. To really make it a special occasion that you can enjoy fully without worrying whether the meat is cooked why not treat Picklesyourself and your guests to a private chef.
