Friday 27th January saw our first pop up of the year held at Sheldon’s Wine Merchants in Shipston. Guests were treated to a four course tasting menu with canapés, accompanied by paired wines and champagne. To begin with guests enjoyed a wine tasting in the cellar of Sheldon’s before having canapés and champagne in the shop while mingling and perusing the fantastic wine selection. Ken, Kara and Emma then invited guests to take their seats for the tasting to commence.

The first course was a chicken and ham hock terrine with pumpkin piccalilli and micro leaves. This was served with homemade brioche – baking is currently one of Alex’s favourite tasks and he is incredibly good at it!

The second course was a cured and charred fillet of mackerel with cucumber ketchup, horseradish and charred cucumber. Thirdly was the trio of quail; pan-seared breast, confit leg and scotch egg (everyones’ favourite!). This was accompanied by baby kale and celeriac fondants.

For dessert it was a blood orange and polenta cake with blood orange jelly, cocoa nib shortbread and cinnamon cream. This went down a treat with the sweet wine pairing, Secret de Chateau Biac 2009 from Cadillac, France. Everyone (including us!) had a lovely evening and the setting of Sheldon’s restaurant was perfect. We look forward to the next event here.

Our next pop up is on Friday 31st March at brand new licensed eatery, The Hive in Stow-on-the-Wold; details to be announced later this week.
