People often ask for theme evenings for special events such as birthdays, which we really enjoy because its the chance to do something a little bit different to the norm and even to learn some new tricks! We love Asian flavours and relish the opportunity to cook anything of this style so when asked to produce a Japanese feast for a 21st birthday we were thrilled. Although we don’t have any formal training in this style of cookery, it is one area that we practice a lot have gained experience from working with some awesome Asian chefs such as Ping Combes. After all, practice makes perfect!

The menu for the evening was as follows:

Nibbles – Sweet chilli roasted nuts and salted edemame beans

Starter – Brown miso soup with crispy tofu and spring onions
a selection of sushi and sashimi with soy, pickled ginger and wasabi

Main – Pork tonkatzu, stir fried rice and kombucha
Chicken yakatori skewers with miso glazed aubergine

Dessert – Blackberry and white chocolate cheesecake with pickled blackberries and praline

As always the menu was made bespoke for the client and therefore they chose a birthday favourite for dessert. We will always provide several menu options for people to choose from but ultimately if there is something particular that is requested we will always try to cater to this.
